9:00   Using Faustmann’s Formula and the Bare Land Value Equation: How to calculate the present value of the income stream from forest rotation and measuring the net present value of bare timberland used in perpetual timber production.

10:15   Using Financial Criteria to Make Investment Decisions: How to rank investment options and a case study of maximizing returns from existing stands.

About the Speaker Dr. Brooks Mendell is President and VP of Research at Forisk Consulting. He has twenty years of consulting, operating, and research experience in forestry, finance and the timber and bioenergy industries. Dr. Mendell leads Forisk’s research and forecasting program. His experience includes roles in harvest operations and procurement with Weyerhaeuser, in management consulting with Accenture, and as a member of the forestry and finance faculties at the University of Georgia. A Fulbright Scholar in Uruguay, Dr. Mendell has published over sixty articles and three books on topics related to timber markets and REITs, forest business and operations, wood bioenergy, and communication skills. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Forestry Association. He earned B.S. and M.S. degrees at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MBA at the University of California at Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in Forest Finance at the University of Georgia.
